Painting Buttercream with Cake Art Paint

Top tips for painting onto buttercream/frosting with Cake Art Paints:

Prepare your cake surface

  • Chill your buttercream cake until the surface is firm to the touch (at least 30 minutes).
  • A smooth, cold surface will prevent the paint from sinking in or smudging.

Shake & mix paint well

  • Edible paints can settle, so shake the bottle thoroughly.
  • Pour a small amount into a dish to avoid contaminating the whole bottle.

Application

  • Use a fine brush for details (lettering, outlines, accents) and a larger brush for washes or bold designs.
  • Dab or stipple rather than dragging the brush, this gives a more solid shine and will not pull your buttercream.

Let it dry

  • Leave the cake in a cool, dry place until the paint sets.
