What surfaces can I use Cake Craft Pens on?

Cake Craft Pens work brilliantly on set sugarpaste, royal icing, fondant, and even marzipan. They're also perfect for cookies, macarons, and marshmallows. The quick-drying formula means minimal smudging on most surfaces.

How long should I wait before using pens on fresh icing?

For best results, let your fondant or sugarpaste dry for at least 30 minutes (ideally overnight) before drawing. This prevents the pen from dragging or tearing the surface. Royal icing should be completely dry - usually 4-6 hours minimum

Can I use these pens directly on buttercream?

Whilst Cake Craft Pens work best on firm surfaces, you can use them on crusted buttercream. The results won't be as crisp as on fondant, but they're great for adding quick details. For buttercream work, we'd suggest using ProGel colours mixed into the buttercream itself or even watering down ProGel making it into a lightweight paint and lightly painting onto firm/set buttercream.

Why does my pen have two different tips?

The dual-nib design gives you versatility in one pen! The 0.5mm fine tip is perfect for writing, outlines, and delicate details like eyelashes or flower veins. The 2.5mm broad tip works brilliantly for filling in larger areas, creating bold patterns, or shading effects.

How do I stop the pens from drying out?

Always replace caps immediately after use - the ethanol-based formula can dry quickly when exposed to air. Store pens horizontally at room temperature. If a nib seems dry, try pressing it gently on paper to encourage ink flow, or store the pen cap-down for a few minutes.

Can children use Cake Craft Pens?

Absolutely! They're 100% edible and safe, making them perfect for kids' decorating projects. The light pressure needed means even small hands can create beautiful designs. Just remember they contain food colouring that could stain clothing and if possible remove the lids and put out of reach if smaller children are around.
