Celebrating 100 Year of ABST

Supporting students since 1925

Pirates, Flying Cobs and Cupcakes

We’re proud to be an active member of the baking and sugarcraft community.  We love hanging out with bakers, seeing their wonderful creations and maybe even eating a slice (or two) of cake.

Hot on the heels of sponsoring Britain's Best Cake 2025 in April (congratulations Abba Cakes!), we were delighted to help support the Alliance for Bakery Students & Trainees (ABST) Conference in May. The ABST was 100 years old in 2025 and has the important mission of furnishing young bakers with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in the baking industry.

That’s a worthy and valuable endeavour….it can also be a lot of fun too!

The 2025 Conference kicked off with a pirate themed fancy dress party.  Fresh from yo-ho-ho-ing, the students then participated in various workshops, including one held by Rainbow Dust on the use of colour and sparkle effects.  Students also heard from the inspirational Leo the Baker and participated in the age-old tradition of ‘lobbing the cob’.  It turns out that the bakers of Limerick are pretty good at throwing a round crusty loaf, winning both the male and female categories with lobs of 23m and 13.1m.

The highlight of course was the National Awards which saw 600 entries this year.  With 34 categories there’s a plethora of baking talent on display.  Closest to our heart as it’s always got oodles of colour and fun is the Celebration Cupcake Challenge won this year by Mary Antunes of Cardiff & Vale College for her Eurovision themed cupcakes.

Come and see what we got up to this year.

We hope to see you there in 2026!
