The Ultimate Essential Cake Recipe

Baking Ingredients
450g unsalted butter
450g caster sugar
450g eggs
450g self raising flour
4 tbsp whole milk
(this recipe is for a 6" 3 layer sponge cake)

Instructions
Step 1
Pre heat the oven to 150 c and line three 6inch cake tins
Step 2
In a large bowl, beat together the unsalted butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy
Step 3
While mixing pour in the eggs and the whole milk and leave mixing
Step 4
Then add in your self raising four and mix until combined, be careful not to over mix at this point
Step 5
Distribute the mixture evenly between the three cake tins
Step 6
Bake all three cake tins in the oven for around 1hour or until golden and springs back (a skewer should come out clean)
Step 7
Flip the sponges out of their tins and onto a cooling rack and leave to cool fully before stacking and decorating.
