Stained Glass Window Cookie Baubles
Baking Ingredients
For the sponges:
- 110g Caster Sugar
- 250g Softened Butter
- 360g Plain flour
- Flavouring is optional (or add chocolate chips or dried fruit)
Decorating Ingredients
- Squires Kitchen Isomalt (colour of your choice)
- Rainbow Dust Cake Art Paints (colour of your choice)
Equipment
- Star Cutter
- Circle Cutter
- Small plain end piping tube & bag
- Paint Brush
- Lined baking tray
- Christmas themed cord thread
- Large plain end piping tube (to punch a hole into the top end of the star)
Method
1. Mix the caster sugar and butter together using an electric mixer. At this stage add any flavouring if needed. Then add the flour and mix until combined. Wrap in cling film and place into the fridge to chill.
2. Dust your work surface with flour before rolling out the dough, moving the dough around to avoid any sticking. Add more flour to your work surface if needed.
3. Cut into star shapes, cutting out the centre with a circle cutter. Use the large plain end tube to punch a hole into the top of the star. This creates a hole for the Christmas thread to be threaded through once baked.
4. Place all shapes onto a lined baking tray and place into the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes. Leave to cool.
5. Add a few isomalt pips into a bowl and place into the microwave at 30 second intervals until melted. Pour into the centre hole of the star. Either use the same colour of isomalt or use a range of different colours, melting each colour in the same way.
6. Make up a small batch of royal icing as per instructions on the packaging. Place into a piping with a small plain end tube, and pipe various designs onto each cookie star or you can leave them plain. Leave to dry before painting.
7. Choose your favourite colours of edible paint you want to use and start to paint each cookie in turn. Leave to dry.
8. Once dry, thread each star using small lengths of trim, ready to hang onto your Christmas tree. This is an ideal way to get all the family involved in making your edible Christmas decorations. Most of all enjoy!!!!
