Simply add Rainbow Dust’s Tylose (CMC) Powder to sugarpaste for the faster drying, harder finish needed in flower and modelling work.  You can also mix this Tylose (CMC) Powder with water to make edible glue.

Sodium Carboxy Methyl Cellulose

When mixed with sugarpaste, Tylose Powder, also known as Tylo Powder or CMC (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) Powder, gives the sugarpaste a firmer consistency making it easier to roll thinly and dry harder to preserve shape and detail. This makes it perfect for creating 3D sugarpaste models and flowers.

Simply add around 10g of Tylose Powder for every 250g of sugarpaste, knead it in thoroughly and leave to rest for 2 – 3 hours before using.

To create edible glue, mix 1g of Tylose Powder to 30ml of water and leave overnight to combine. Adding more water will create a thinner edible glue and less water a thicker edible glue.

If you’d prefer a natural alternative to Tylose Powder you may wish to consider using Gum Tragacanth.

Tylose Powder should be stored at ambient room temperature in a moisture resistant container.
