Nathasja Flapper
I am Nathasja Flapper from the Netherlands, also known as Flappergasted Cakes.
Back in 2012, my stepfather bought me a magazine about cake decorating, even though I had nothing to do with cakes or even general kitchen hobbies. He saw it and thought it would be something for me. Oh he was right! Not at first of course, because I would get bored quickly with every new hobby I had if it wasn't perfect right away, so after a few fails, my love for sculpted cakes and modelling, was born.
About Nathasja
In 2015, it was a whirlwind year. I won a gold medal at Cake International, and my social media blew up. That same year, I began teaching, and in 2016, I became an ambassador for Rainbow Dust. While competing in Germany, I had a conversation with Alejandro from Rainbow Dust, and he shared his favourite piece from the competition — and to my surprise, it was mine! It felt like an instant connection.
That same year, I became a finalist at the Cake Masters Awards which was a true highlight. I then went to teach abroad in Australia. Gold after Gold, I could not believe this was happening!
At the end of 2017, I started a new business with my dear friend Mariska and we opened up a shop. I took it all down a notch, still competing sometimes but not much, and teaching went from many masterclasses to the easier beginners classes with only a few masterclasses. When my friend left the business in 2022 and not long after that I closed my shop and took some months to myself to recover from a few hectic years following covid aftermath and rebuild a brand new bakery at home.
Earlier this year, I felt it was time to re-enter the industry. In 2024, I returned to competitions and won gold in both Germany and Birmingham! I’m thrilled to still be an ambassador for Rainbow Dust!
