How to create Shimmer Dust Buttercream
Learn how to create shimmery buttercream
Prepare the Cake
- Stack and fill your cake layers.
- Apply a crumb coat (thin layer of buttercream to trap crumbs). Chill 15–20 minutes.
Mix Your Shimmer Paint
- In a small dish, mix a little lustre dust with rejuvenator spirit.
- Aim for a smooth paint consistency (not too watery).
Paint the Inside of the Piping Bag
- Take a clean piping bag.
- Use a brush to paint stripes or swirls of the shimmer mixture on the inside walls of the bag.
- Focus on the areas where the buttercream will press against as you pipe.
- Tip: You can do straight stripes for a streaky shimmer, or coat the whole inside for an all-over glow.
Fill with Buttercream
- Gently spoon your buttercream into the painted piping bag.
- Try not to smear too much, so the shimmer stays on the walls.
Pipe Your Decorations
- As you pipe swirls, rosettes, or borders, the buttercream will come out with the shimmer dust already embedded in it, giving a metallic or pearly glow.
